ABOUT US
DJV Label and Packaging was founded in 1976 by David Volkmuth in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The business began in the sheetfed printing industry, offering commercial print services to local clients. Although the company occasionally took on label jobs, sheetfed printing remained its core focus in the early years. However, as the market grew increasingly competitive—particularly in St. Cloud, where many others offered similar services—the need for a strategic shift became clear. In the late 1990s, Randy Volkmuth, David’s son, joined forces with Todd Bowman and Kurt Olson to move the company in a new direction. Todd and Kurt, both experienced in sales and relationship-building, worked to bring in new clients, while Randy focused on internal operations. It was during this time that they made the pivotal decision to fully transition DJV into the label business, selling off their sheetfed equipment and committing fully to label production.
That decision marked a significant turning point for DJV. With a sharpened focus on label manufacturing, the team put their energy into growing the business through strong customer relationships, attention to detail, and reliable service. Todd and Kurt used their strengths in sales to expand DJV’s reach, bringing in new clients and developing long-term partnerships. Meanwhile, Randy ensured that operations were tight, quality remained high, and every customer’s expectations were met or exceeded. This blend of strategic sales growth and dependable production laid the groundwork for DJV’s long-term success, helping the company carve out a strong reputation in a competitive market.
Today, DJV Label and Packaging is a proud, thriving three-generation family business. Randy’s son, Thomas Volkmuth, now plays a key role in the company, having been mentored by both Kurt and Todd. Their influence helped shape him into a skilled, relationship-driven professional who understands the core values that have guided DJV since the beginning. The company continues to grow while remaining grounded in the principles it was built on—listening to customers, building trust, and delivering consistent, high-quality label solutions. The legacy David Volkmuth began in 1976 remains alive and well, carried forward with the same passion, work ethic, and dedication that built it from the start.
